Common irrigation repairs

  • Broken or damaged sprinkler heads
  • Sprinklers not popping up or not retracting
  • Blocked or damaged nozzles
  • Leaking irrigation pipes and fittings
  • Faulty or leaking valves
  • Zones that won't switch on, or won't switch off
  • Controller and timer problems
  • Low pressure on one or more zones
  • Drip line leaks, blockages and damage

Signs your system needs attention

Many irrigation faults are underground or inside a valve box, so they're easy to miss. Watch for:

  • Wet, soggy or sunken patches in the lawn that never dry out
  • Dry, brown patches in an area that should be watered
  • Water running down the driveway or pooling on paving
  • A sprinkler that sprays sideways, mists, or barely sprays at all
  • Water still running when the system should be off
  • A higher water bill without an obvious reason

Why it's worth fixing early

A leaking pipe or a valve that doesn't close properly can waste a lot of water before anyone notices, and the water you pay for ends up in the soil instead of on the garden. One broken head on a zone can also drop the pressure for every other sprinkler on that zone, leaving dry patches.

Small faults are usually quick to fix. Left for months, a leak can wash out soil, damage paving or let roots into the pipe.

You don't need to know what's wrong

Just describe what the system is doing, for example "the back lawn zone doesn't come on" or "water bubbles up next to the driveway". The contractor will find the cause: a broken head, a cracked pipe, a stuck valve, a wiring fault or a controller setting.

Frequently asked questions

Why won't my sprinklers pop up?

Usually low pressure on that zone (often caused by a leak or a broken head elsewhere on the same zone), dirt in the sprinkler, or a valve that isn't opening fully. Sometimes the head itself is worn or damaged.

Why won't one zone switch on?

Common causes are a faulty valve solenoid, a wiring fault between the controller and the valve, or a controller setting. If no zone works, the problem is more likely at the controller or the water supply.

My system keeps running after it should switch off. What should I do?

Close the irrigation's water supply tap to stop the water and request a repair. This is often a valve that is stuck open or has debris in it.

Can you replace a single sprinkler head?

Yes. Broken, blocked or worn heads and nozzles can be replaced individually, ideally with a matching type so the zone waters evenly.

Do you repair systems someone else installed?

Yes. Repairs aren't limited to systems the contractor installed.

How much does an irrigation repair cost?

It depends on what's wrong and how many parts are needed. A broken head is a small job; a leak under paving takes more. You'll get a quote once the fault is found.
